Angelique Campbell Reveals her TLC Extreme Couponing Season 3 Shopping Trip!

extreme couponing season 3

Interested in understanding more about how my Extreme Couponing Season 3 went down? I will do my best to give you all the information about my trip…and answer any questions you may have!

  1. Where did you shop?
I shopped at Kmart in Everett Washington.
  2. How long did your shopping trip take?
It’s important to remember that while I did a huge trip I was also filming so it did take longer than if I would have just gone to the store and shopped. I ended up in the store for approximately 14 hours!!!! Yes it was a very very very long day! Much harder pregnant than the first time I shopped for Extreme Couponing Season 1
  3. Is this a “normal” trip for you?
No! I do not tend to go to the store and spend that much time shopping or even filling multiple carts. I prefer to do frequent small trips to the store in order to help with time management, child care and of course not clearing a shelf! I try to shop a stock-up deal a couple times (at different locations) throughout a week…as to not clear a shelf. If I plan on getting a larger quantity of items I ALWAYS special order whatever I am buying!

  4. Why were you in a motorized cart?
Just a few days before the filming began I was put on bed rest as a precaution by my doctor. I was given permission to be allowed to continue the shoot by my doctor as long as I was in a wheel chair or motorized cart.
  5. How did you get your coupons?
This time getting my coupons was different. I have had a harder time going out and getting coupons as I did before, so I have greatly relied on friends and neighbors giving me the coupons they had! I also for the first time did have to order some coupons from a clipping service (which is something I do not normally do and try to prevent). However a majority of my coupons came from the newspaper, online printables, and trading with other couponing friends!
  6. How much did you spend on your trip?
Now this gets a little tricky as we did have a few issues with the register freezing up and crashing! I did end up paying $0.56 in order to close out our order and move on to a different register (mainly because being 7 months pregnant I didn’t want to wait forever while we figured it out). However, I did leave with $55 in Catalina’s to spend on my next shopping trip, vouchers for 3 FREE Hams, and earned over $54 in ShopYourWay Rewards!  So technically I left making  $142!!!!
  7. What did you do with all that stuff?
Well we intended on keeping part of it and donating the rest. But we found out the day after the shoot that we would be moving from Washington State to Kansas!!! So we ended up either donating or giveaway everything!!!!
  8. How many coupons did you double?
Just like anybody else who shops at Kmart I only doubled 5 coupons per person per day. Which means…I doubled 5 coupons and my husband doubled 5 coupons and that’s it!
  9. Why did you do so many transactions?
I had to break up my transactions for a few reasons…first of all Kmart’s cash registers have a very small line limit (a line limit is how many “lines” can be scanned…which includes products, coupons and voids) Secondly, Kmart’s coupon policy only allows for 1 catalina coupon to be used per transaction…and I used a $5-$10 catalina to help pay down the cost of EVERY single transaction. Thirdly, I used Shop Your Way rewards to also keep down the cost of each transaction.

Always wonder how to save on produce and meats? Here are all of my tips…just for you!!! Plus TWO smoking HOT deals to get your garden started!!!

I have gotten several messages from readers wanting to know how I save money on produce. There are several methods I use for saving money on produce the first is my favorite…garden! A couple of years ago I started my own above ground planters with lettuce, beets, cucumber, squash, potatoes, onions, green beans and some other various veggies we love to eat.  I also use pots to grow tomatoes and jalapeno peppers…this is because they require FULL direct sunlight…but can also be a little temperamental, so I like to be able to move them around the yard if I need to.  Because we cook so much in our home I had always wanted an herb garden…so I tore out all of the shrubbery in front of our home and planted rosemary, thyme, basil, garlic, and oregano (I planted cilantro in pots). I have to tell you growing your own produce and especially herbs is a HUGE money saver. We also grow our own fruit…in Washington I had an apple tree, rhubarb bush, strawberry patch, raspberry bushes and several blueberries…all this reminiscing of my garden is making me anxious to build my new garden here in Kansas!!!

I know for some of you gardening is not an option…and for most of us gardening is only an option for a portion of the calendar year…so how do I save money on produce during the off season? Farmers markets is one way (I find it educational and fun for me and the kids), join a community garden, but still if these options only last so long…during the off season I try to buy my produce and meats with transferred prescription credits. I am not sure if you saw my episode on Extreme Couponing…but on the first season I was able to walk away with nearly $2700 in groceries (including produce, meats and organic milk) and got paid nearly $60 to do so!!! I did that by transferring prescriptions to my local grocery store when they were offering a $25 credit for every transferred prescription.

But still there are those of us who do not have monthly prescription needs, therefore that option is not great either…so here goes my most current solution that I have been using. Shop the sale cycles! Yes produce and meat have sale cycles, throughout the year produce and meat reach rock bottom prices depending on the season. I shop those sales and plan my meals around whatever is in season and CHEAP. For example, in the summer berries, peaches, lettuce, and bell peppers are usually at their lowest prices…I buy those items at their lowest price and design my meal plan around what I was able to pick up. I generally try not to spend more than $1/lb for produce or $2/lb for meat.

When fruit reaches those low prices I buy several pounds at a time and cut and freeze them so that we can have yummy fruit in the winter! I do the same with meat…when meat goes below $2/lb (depending on what it is) I try to pick up enough for several meals…and put it in my freezer stockpile…this way when there is a “bad” sale week and no “good” prices for meat I already have what I need in my freezer!

For instance last week I was able to pick up baby back rips for $1.99/lb!!!! Now we love us some BBQ ribs…plus we would much rather eat them at home than at any restaurant. My hubby is King of the BBQ.  So I picked up 3 racks of ribs to put into my freezer…for only $5 a rack!!! Kinda wish I bought more but it wasn’t in my budget this week…so I had self control.

The most important thing to remember about saving money on produce and meat is that there are several ways to save money and stick to budget…you simply have to set your mind to saving, make your meals based on the sale cycles/seasons and try not to be too picky…LOL :)

I hope this helps…good luck!!!

Here are a few website to check out for produce coupons:

The best place to save on meat…especially chicken is with Zaycon…go HERE now and score hormone free, all natural, never frozen, boneless skinless chicken breasts for only $1.79/lb!!!! Zaycon also has great hamburger, Alaskan salmon, sausage, ham, produce and more…all at GREAT bulk prices!!!

Right now you can snatch up a Topsy Turvy  for this amazing deal: Get 2 Topsy Turvy Tomato Planters and 2 Topsy Turvy Strawberry Planters – only $10.00 + P&H.** (originally $19.95 for just the Tomato Planters)

***I have used Topsy Turvy for my tomatoes it’s seriously the EASIEST way ever to grow!!! Plus if you have issues with critters getting into your plants and vegetable gardens…you won’t have to worry with Topsy Turvey…they are safely hanging where ever you find the most convenient!!!

The TIME IS NOW to start ordering your plants, seeds and getting your starters ready for your garden…so ORDER NOW and get ready to have a great growing season!

Having a few plants to start out your produce garden is better than nothing right?!?! I grow produce every year and it cuts my produce bill/budget down by 70% for the entire year!!! Seriously it’s totally worth the little bit of time and effort!

If you don’t like tomatoes…do you make spaghetti…grow tomatoes and make your own tomato sauce and freeze it!!!

There is also this AWESOME deal for Chili Peppers if you want to grow some peppers in your garden this deal is pretty rock’in if you ask me!!!

Previews to my Extreme Couponing Trips…Including My Kmart Layaway Commercial (kinda lame…LOL)

My Costco trip and how I plan to stick to my $300/month budget for our family of 6!!!

Ok so I stopped shopping at Costco for quite awhile when I was at my peak of couponing…I was able to pretty much provide for our family for about $50 a month. However, I have not been able to get out and “coupon” for myself as much lately…primarily because of just having a baby…and because we just moved across country…so I am re-assessing our budget and have upped it to $300 a month (with the hope that I don’t actually spend that).

Sooooo…we headed off to Costco today as a family and stocked up on some meats, produce and essentials that we were in need of! Plus we splurged on a few craving items :) We we able to grab enough produce to hold us over for at least the next 2 weeks (given it doesn’t all go bad before that!) Meat that should cover our meals for the next 3 weeks (at least) and several extra essentials and splurges…we paid a total of $225. That leaves me with $75 left to coupon and sales ad shop the rest of the items we may need throughout the month.

It is so sad that I am having to spend money on some of these items…as I had an AMAZING freezer stockpile and vegetable garden back in Washington that would have provided most of my meats and veggies for the summer at no cost to me!!! But oh well…God had other plans and someone else is enjoying that food while I am learning how to adjust to midwest grocery shopping and 4 kiddos!!!

Here is a picture of our new baby Kyron (2 weeks old)…just cause he is so dang cute!!!

I am planning on starting up a garden as soon as I can…I do have a small strawberry patch and tomato plants right now…and will be adding a few more veggies and blueberry bushes to my garden for fall harvest, and next year I will hopefully have a full vegetable garden again!!! I am also planning on working harder at finding some HOT meat deals here in Kansas so I can begin my meat freezer stockpile soon. As of now my rule of thumb is I do not spend more than $2.00/pound for meat…if it goes significantly below that I will buy more than we need for the  month and put it away in the freezer :) (By the way I never spend more than $1.00/lb for chicken) And I try not to spend more than $1.00/pound for produce!

Question: What is your stock up or purchase price for meat???

Oh ya…I almost forgot! I would love to see your hauls and shopping trips…post pictures and what you paid for your trip up on my Facebook Page and I will choose one winner every week to receive a FREE set of weekly inserts mailed to their home!!! Good luck…happy shopping and I can’t wait to see your hauls!!!

How to be a working mom (dad) and an Extreme Couponer!

I won’t lie it’s no walk in the park! But yes it can be done! There are a few things to remember…First of all find a way to organize your coupons in a way that fits your current lifestyle. (If you don’t have time to clip then use a filing method or clipping service!) This way if there is an awesome deal you really want you have everything easily accessible, resulting in saving time!

The second thing to remember is that rainchecks are your best friend! To be honest if it wasn’t for rainchecks I probably wouldn’t be able to get 80% of my purchases. Working means that often times I don’t get a chance to go out and chase that super amazing deal, so by the time I get there nothing is left L But guess what Raincheck to the rescue!!! The best thing about rainchecks is you can go back and get the desired amount of that item anytime before the raincheck or coupons expire.  Another benefit of rainchecks is sometimes you are able to score an even better deal with it. For instance, say you were unable to get diapers from a store when they were on sale for $5.99 per pack, so you  get a raincheck.  You were planning on using  a coupon for $1.50/1 Huggies diaper coupon making your total price $4.49 per pack of diapers.

***Deal Scenario #1***
(Using your raincheck for $5.99 per pack of Huggies Diapers,                                 immediately)
Buy (1) pack of Huggies Diapers
Use (1) $1.50/1 Huggies Coupon
Final Cost: $4.49 each

But WAIT!!! Say you don’t use your raincheck right away and a couple of weeks later an even better coupon comes out for $3/1 pack of Huggies diapers!!!  Watch what happens now with your raincheck!

***Deal Scenario #2***
(Using your raincheck for $5.99 a couple of weeks later)
Buy (1) pack of Huggies Diapers
Use (1)$3/1 Huggies Coupon
Final Cost: $2.99 each!!!

The last and most important thing to remember is being “extreme” doesn’t mean you have to “catch” every deal. Remember that deals always come back around…if you can’t get there life will go on! In my opinion being an extreme couponer means that you save EXTREME, create a budget (and stick to it) and stockpile when items hit rock bottom prices so you don’t have to pay full price later.  By having your coupons ready you can illuminate some of the time and stress of rushing to “catch that deal” you are chasing to add to your stockpile. Plus remember you can always get rainchecks for those items that you are gone by the end of the week when you finally have a chance to get there! All of these tips will help you achieve a stockpile and accomplish being a busy mom or dad as well as an extreme couponer….who ever said you couldn’t do it all?!

ProperFlops was conceptually started during a flight back from an extensive travelling trip overseas. During the trip, the founder-who loves flip flops and wears them 24/7- began to experience extensive pain and swelling in his feet. Upon his return, he went to his podiatrist, who informed him that he should no longer wear flip flops, as they were beginning to damage his feet. The doctor did not have many suggestions for flip flops that had proper arch support, and as a result, many hours were spent searching for a solution.

The alternatives were few and far between; the few companies that did offer orthopedic- type flip flops, were almost all made in China, did not look that great, and cost far more than any flip flop should ever cost. That’s when the light bulb went on – could it be possible to create a flip flop that was first and foremost good for your feet, but yet also durable, stylish, affordable, recyclable and made in the USA??? With that, the idea of Properflops was born and with a little elbow grease, is now a reality.

How to Extreme Coupon Where I live!!!

I always get asked is is possible to Extreme Coupon in Washington? Kansas? California? “…Fill in the blank” Yes it is possible to Extreme Coupon ANYWHERE! Just keep in mind Extreme Couponing does not mean that you go out and try and buy thousands of dollars of stuff for FREE! That is totally not my belief…just because you see me do it on tv, doesn’t mean that is how I normally shop or how I believe in couponing!

I do NOT do crazy large trips like you see on the show! I I also do not ALWAYS save 100%! I try of course to save as much as possible…but I do occasionally have to spend money (sad I know).  I have always maintained a $50 a week budget for our family of 5 (almost 6). However, as my stockpile has grown I have found that many times I hardly spend $100 a month!!!

Now here is the kicker…I have always couponed in Washington (Seattle area)…but we just moved to Kansas and am now learning all new stores! I have to admit I feel like a newbie couponer having to learn the stores policies and learn how to maintain my extreme savings! But believe you-me…I will be successful! I will learn how to EXTREME COUPON ANYWHERE!!!!

So now I bid you all good luck and hope that you give it a try! Remember Extreme Couponing isn’t about how big your haul is or achieving 100% savings it’s about being willing to save money! My definition of extreme couponing is being willing to take the time to get your coupons, clip them and save money (in any percentage!)

God Bless you all and feel free to ask any questions you may have…I am here to help!
